A Cosmic Fantasy 4 chapter 2 walkthrough Special thanks to Ken Tam (paladinken@hotmail.com) for checking this! For all of you CF fans who have this game and want to play it but don't know Japanese, have no fear. This walkthrough is designed to help you get through the game with little fuss. Hopefully, I've only included that which is necessary to solve the game. However, I may have omitted something by mistake. Ken Tam says everything works, so I will take his word. To start out with, here are some general hints for this walkthrough. * Maps are not included. These would be very difficult to do, even though I did map out every single nook and cranny in the whole game. It's just that they're not to scale and would probably have to be graphic files due to the fact that most people don't use monospaced word processors much and that it'd take forever to do them in ASCII. * Don't use water magicks on plants. Fire works best. * SUPER IMPORTANT!!! Arrange your items occasionally. (In the item and weapon lists, the two arrows icon is arrange.) You can only have five screens of items and five screens of weapons. You MUST have room to pick up key items. * Use some items every now and then. Rather than throw them out, use them in combat. Offensive items are located towards the right side and healing items are towards the left. * If you don't read Japanese, try to "copy down" the characters in the names of items that replenish your HP. These are easily identified by the fact that they usually have the letters HP in the description of the item. * If someone's unconscious, try various items on them. The item will only be used if it works. * Use Auto combat to relieve some of the boredom of combat. It's a lot more effective than it was in CF4 Chapter 1! Auto 1-Your character attacks a random enemy each time his/her meter fills to yellow. Auto 2-Your character attacks a random enemy each time his/her meter fills to green. Auto C-Your character is automatically selected each time his/her meter is filled. If it's just to yellow, pressing II will cancel your selection to let the meter go to green. Once it reaches green, it'll select the character again. Auto F-Auto is completely off. In general, Auto 1 and 2 are very stupid. * In weapons shops, you generally get what you pay for. However, you may have picked up something stronger in your treasure-hunting. * Pressing select in the equip and magic screens cycles through your characters. * Unless you can read Japanese, you'd be best off answering "yes" to every question (except perhaps in weapon/item shops). It's the first option. * Defending doesn't work against magical attacks and takes a long time to recover from. * For directions, we're assuming up is North, left is West, etc. Directions are occasionally abbreviated N, S, E, W. * I'm assuming you know the names of the characters. If not, a good place to learn them would be on the Unofficial Cosmic Fantasy Home Page (http://pages.prodigy.com/fredduck/cfhp.htm). In fact, you probably got this walkthrough from there. We're up and running as of this writing (8/2/98). That's about all I can think of. Before you start: Everybody, whip out your instruction manuals and look at the last page, which is a map of the planet Idea. Copy the placement of the boxes on another sheet of paper (so you don't hurt your manual) and label them as follows: Elban Shura Tree Darva's old shrine Teista Tora Remlai City Kusta Valley* Spaceport* *These names are completely made up, yet descriptive. (I can't read them at all.) To start the game: When you reach the screen with the cat (Nyan), choose the second option if you've never played before. Choose the first one if you're continuing. The digital comic: the easy part of the Walkthrough. Here are the necessary menu and submenu choices to pick to get through the Digital Comic. 1:1, 1:1, 1:2, 1:2, 1:2, 3:1, 5:1, 5, 4:1 4:1 2:1 1:1, 1:1, 5:1, 2, 2, 5:1 Much shorter than Chapter 1's! Yeah! Into Act 1 From where you start, head East. Try to go through the first North door twice. (Note: to open the door, you need to push the buttons next to the door, not push on the door itself. All doors with buttons behave this way.) Head SW and leave the spaceport. The door is in the South wall. Like most doors in South walls, it's merely an indention. You will be taken to Remlai City. Go North, dodge the fountain and enter the building. You'll meet Kurea, who'll take you to Jan. When you've done talking, go South out of the room, head East along the balcony, then South all the way. Go down the stairs and out the door. Head South to re-enter the city. Then head generally West to leave the city. It'll ask for your confirmation. Travel South along the river and cross the bridge. Then, head Northwest, through a mountain pass where the town of Fog used to be. Head West and cross the bridge. If you go a bit farther West, you'll encounter Darva's old shrine, where you can get healed in the basement. Anyway, head NW and you'll find a cave. Enter the cave. We'll call this the North Cave. Okay? Great. Map notes: It'd be easiest if you made your own maps. Besides, then, you'd get nearly as many experience points as I did (and I sure had a hard time with a lot of the bosses!). This is the simplest cave in the game. But it's still confusing at times. On the main level, there are three sets of stairs and a treasure chest. If you take the right fork upon entering the cave, it'll take you to the treasure and a staircase. The stairs lead to a healing fountain and a burned out torch. Those are pretty useful to know about. Following the left fork takes you to two staircases. The first one you encounter leads to 2 treasure chests. The farthest one has a treasure chest and leads out of the cave. Once you've left, go North and into Elban. Go into the house directly NW of the INN and talk to the old lady. Leave town, head East and South to reach Joshua's house. And welcome to Act 2. This is where most people get stuck. :) Pikku reads a book and tells you that you need 6 somethings, 3 other somethings, and 6 something elses. You don't really need to know the names of the items. They'll show up as red items in your inventory. Basically, if you've got 2 sets of red items x6, you're probably good to go. Hopefully, with this walkthrough, you won't even need to know that. :) The three sets also have the same description. If you leave the house and return, Joshua will let you rest and save. Head South to Kusta. Talk to the man in the westernmost house twice. Exit the town and travel NW to the sealed cave. Enter the cave. Map notes: Here's where you get the 6 items with the letters "IC" in the name. 2 are on the first floor and 4 on the second. There's also a bed you can sleep in. (How can Van, Rim, and Annie sleep with one bed..?! Well, it sure beats having to run to Darva's all the time for free healing. :) ) A note on the table by the bed lets you save. If you get poisoned, use Annie's Peemu magic. It's the second white one in non-combat scenes. Watch out for the Spider boss on the map. I had an easy time defeating him with Van 14, Rim 17, Annie 17 but Rim had a decent weapon. I don't know where I found it. I just kept using her special and that sliced through the monster really well. Go SE to Tora. Talk to the old man in the house that is in the middle of town. (He's balding and wearing purple.) Leave town and go to Teisuta. Enter the house closest to the southern entrance. Talk. Leave the house and talk to the man with green hair. He should be just to the west, walking around. Leave town and head back to the North Cave. Use the switch and follow the hidden path Pepe took. Fight Pepe and Kazu. (Pepe animates a little. :) ) Then fight Kameria. She also animates some and is fairly difficult. (Much different from when we last fought them in Chapter 1, eh?) Try to use Van's special attack when you have a chance. (Remember: Van's HP needs to be red and when he attacks, it knocks half of his own HP off, too. Besides that, you can only use it once.) Leave the cave to the South. Go to Remlai and enter the westernmost SALESALESALE shop. Stand on the opposite side of the counter from the salesperson and talk. When the boy leaves out the back, follow after him. From the street, head East until you get to the wide main street, then head North. Near the top of the map, there's a fountain. Three people are standing, talking to each other. Talk to the one on the right. Leave Remlai. Go back toward Tora but instead of going in, go a bit SE of there. There's another cave. When you walk in, a teleportal will appear. Map notes: Funky colours! Magic isn't very useful here... Van should probably attack. Annie and Rim should use their specials. Annie's special is more effective than just healing. However, it's exactly the same whether her meter's green or yellow. Rim needs the best weapon. Her special's so draining that letting her go to green is best. If she misses... :( Once out, you will enter a forest. Map notes: There's not much to say. This is a very tall map sequence and pretty pointless. I found 4 chests before reaching the end and 4 fairies. When you talk to Natsuto, you'll end up by Remlai. (BTW, after this, I went to Remlai city and talked to the small dog in an alley behind one of the Eastern weapon shops. He moved away and I got to play a matching card game with Nyan for weapons and items. Of course, you have to pay...) Moving right along...Go back into the SALESALESALE shop. Again, talk to the storekeeper. Buy the item. Go to the item shop just South of the fountain. Talk to the old man with grey hair who's walking about. Go to Taisuta, talk to the same old man as before. Now talk to the man in Kusta twice. He should give you two sets of items. It's time to head back to Pikku. ACT 3 Talk to Jan, then head NE and talk to the guy with the hard hat. After he removes the blockade, go NE to the cave. Map notes: A twisty, winding cave. The maps are a LOT harder than Chapter 1!! I found 6 chests. When you step outside, you'll notice: monsters are TOUGH on Clan Island! Enter the first town you come across and go to the inn. No one's in. Hmm. Head SE to the cave. This leads to the Pyramid. Map notes: A rather straightforward cave. I found 5 chests. Forward to ACT 4. Go into the house. You can buy stuff from the pacing guy and the man with the hat will let you sleep/save. Head North. More animated enemies. :) Of course, they're tough. :| Welcome to the Pyramid (ACT 5) (3 FUN maps all in a row...) Map notes: There are statues that need to be pushed onto buttons. Read all the signs on the walls. There's one that tells you directions to get through the room right after it. (Of course, you can blindly run through it but you get really hurt in the process.) The globes let you heal/save. The enemies you need to fight when rescuing Rim is difficult. At least, they were on Level 22. Beat up the left Tiger first. The right one blows up 7 times when you defeat it. Normal attacks work best. Don't use your special, you'll get crushed! When the enemy starts to flash, it's almost gone. After you rescue Rim, head South, then East. The door is open and you can get the key now. You need it. :) Try searching the small statues. Something may turn up. I think I only found 4-5 chests + 1 hidden. Next map notes: You thought the first map was fun? You haven't seen anything... This map has multiple ways through it. As far as I know, you MUST pick up a ball from a platform and use it on another one. Try searching the mummy. There's a part with doors. There are four doors in a row, four columns. You start at the bottom and need to get to the top. Some doors are monsters. If you don't feel like fighting lots of doors, here's a cheat: mmdm KEY: d=door m=monster dmmd mmdm ddmm La-di-da. (I'm getting tired of these maps just looking at them!) Whee! Final Pyramid map notes: There is a guard here you can talk to. His words are a code to open an electric gate. The letters correspond to a row of 5 switches, ABCDE, left to right. The machines that let you heal/save are kinda low and wide. They're different from all the others. (As usual.) The boss is a SUPER INCREDIBLY HARD TOUGH MONSTROUSLY LONG battle...Level up! Okay...when you leave the final teleportal, there's a machine to heal/save in the NW corner of the room and a door in the center top. Save. As you go through the door and around, you'll be stopped by a Tiger. He's animated and weak against water. Piece of cake. GO SAVE! Head farther North and you’ll fight 2 G-Tigers! Rim was L36 and Van was L28 and I had to redo this a lot. Van's special is again, very dangerous to do. The G-Tigers have 2-hit combos. Okay. But...they also have missile attacks that hit 4 times for ~100HP of damage! And they can stun you! After counting up the HP as best I could, it seems the G-Tigers each have 2000 HP. Then, their skeletons have another 2500HP! (When you see how much damage you do, you'll see why this is such a pain.) Your magic is not effective against them. You'll have to fight tooth and nail the whole way. At least the skeleton form's easier to damage. :) When you enter the next room, don't go onto the platform. Head North to the little room and open both chests. :) Then, go to the platform. Fight Jirubel. She's not too hard. (And she's animated! :) ) When you can finally control Van again... Here's ACT 6. You just saw cinemas 4-11. (Gee, these aren't spread out evenly.) If you go back into the Little Fox, Dandy (Robert) will let you heal/save. Walk behind the control console and search the N part. That's a powerful attack item. Go NW to the town of Toto. Enter the house NW of the South entrance and go to the bedroom to sleep/save. Exit. Hear Gash. See Gash. Talk to Gash. Fight Gash. (He's animated!) Lose to Gash! Go North to Bura. Try to enter the cemetery. There should be a person with brown hair and an orange jacket walking nearby. Talk to him. Go to the item shop. Talk to the shopkeeper. Go behind Nyan and talk to him. Go to the inn and talk to the innkeeper. Walk upstairs and into the room with three beds. Head downstairs, out the back door, and into the cemetery. Search the front of the SE tombstone. ACT 7...already? Here come map notes: This is a very easy map. How refreshing. You need to get an ID card, though. Talk to the soldiers. After you talk to the soldier in the room, head NE and turn the switch on. Head into the teleportal and back. Go back and talk to the soldier again. Having completed that short ACT, it's on to: ACT 8 From Bura, head North. When you see the mountains, turn West. Enter Fort Dalas. To get inside, search the space in front of the tree closest to the SW corner of the castle. (We remember this. :) ) More map notes: You are in the basement. The lower basement has people you want to rescue. Go see them. Then, head all the way up! Watch out for discoloured floor tiles... 13 items were discovered in this Fort. I guess you could just go in after beating the Fort because as I recall, there are no enemies. The boss, Goras, animates. Yay! ACT 9 "Almost as bad as ACT 5" This one's a doozy...At least we have our old buddy Milan. Here's my party: Van L33, Annie L29, Nyan L34, Milan L35. Go NE to the zigzag on the mountain. Walk up to the boulder and fight it! This is one tough rock. Penultimate map notes: This is just a long map. It's got a few healing springs, too. I found 11 chests. Into the mountainside along with: The FINAL map notes: Argh. That's all I have to say. I guess this was the last map Kazuhiro Ochi and company had to make so they threw in a reallllllly big one. Other than the part with the hoverpads, it's pretty straightforward. Fun with finding ID cards and there's a secret chest or three, along with a man who sells stuff. See suspicious walls? Check 'em! There's a good weapon hidden in the hidden chest right before the goal. It's accessible through a western wall in an L-shaped room right after finishing the hoverpad section. When you find Gash, fight to lose. Then, fight to win. I think as soon as Van uses his special, it's over but I can't confirm. Hmm hmm hmm... Got to Jirubel and her mecha yet? Take out Jirubel’s right "option" (hovering thing) first. Otherwise, it'll revive the left. Don't bother attacking Jirubel if she's got an option. The options each have ~1000HP. Of course, she can revive them, too. :| Use Yuu's 40MP Psycho Crush. Saya's special works well, too. Okay. You've reached M Jirubel and it's tough going. Stay calm! Heal and be careful. Her double claw attack is the most powerful. So, check that out. Watch the ending. FIN Thank you for reading my walkthrough. I hope you've enjoyed it. :) 8/2/98 Not bad for 3 weeks worth of playing and me knowing only ~12 Japanese characters, eh? Problems? Questions? Idle chatter?
